Melbourne couple make a sea-change at Highton auction as bidders push price $45K over reserve

A pair of Melbourne buyers will call Highton home after snapping up an updated three-bedroom house for at a hotly contested auction on Saturday.

Supported by friends and her husband on satellite phone, edged out two other bidders to take over the keys of the stylish property at 101 Belle Vue Ave

The couple, from Richmond, are relocating to Geelong for work and to start a family, after paying $675,000 for the property.

Barry Plant, Highton auctioneer Kieron Hunter declared the property was on the market when the price reached $631,000.

From there it was just a matter of how far the price would climb as bids came through thick and fast.

It looked to be a two-horse race until a third bidder made a late play at $655,000 as the price eased $45,000 over the reserve.

Barry Plant, Highton agent Deane Hughes was pleased with the result, and that the property had generated plenty of interest prior to auction.

“We had 80 people there and the weather held off nicely for us,” he said.

“We had 60 groups go through the house before the auction and had an offer of $650,000 from an investor last week.”

The property, with light-filled living zone and modern kitchen featuring black accents and honeycomb splash back, had been listed with price hopes of $580,000 and $630,000.

It also comes with a spa, bungalow and cubby house and offers gated rear access to the McDonald Reserve.
